JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Position                     :            GCM Intern

 

Department               :            Golf Course Maintenance

 

Responsible To        :             Golf Course Superintendent

 

Responsible For      :             Course Foreman/Maintenance Crew

 

Purpose and Scope of Position:

( Job Summary )

 

  • To work closely with the Golf Course Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent to ensure  the maintenance, operation and management of the golf course and club properties

 

  1. Main Duties / Key Functions
    1. Working closely with the Golf Course Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent in supervising construction and maintenance of the golf course and club property
    2. Supervising the maintenance and repair of department equipment
    3. Training and development of Maintenance Crew staff

2.  Operational Management Responsibilities

 

The GCM Intern assists the Golf Course Superintendent in managing and maintaining golf course properties, which may include:

 

    1. The golf courses and club property
    2. Maintenance equipment
    3. Clubhouse grounds and landscaping
    4. Other properties as specified by management

 

3.    Additional functions

 

In addition, the GCM intern typically assumes the following responsibilities:

    1. Assist in construction, renovation and/or reconstruction of such properties, whether performed by maintenance staff or outside contractors.
    1. Directs and supervises a staff of employees for the purpose of maintaining the properties.
    2. Assists in planning all maintenance and project work, applying agronomic and administrative expertise to achieve the organizational standards and goals.
    3. Oversees the scheduling and routing of personnel and equipment to accomplish the work. The GCM Intern inspects the golf course and related areas to evaluate how well management standards are being achieved and coordinates with the Golf Course Superintendent to develop management programs.
    4. The GCM Intern assists in inventory control and oversees equipment maintenance programs. Exercises cost control measures to keep operating and capital expenses in line with the approved budgets.
    5. Keeps accurate and complete records on maintenance procedures, pesticide applications, etc.
    6. The GCM Intern works closely with the Golf Course Superintendent in all aspects of the operation to ensure organizational goals are achieved.

4.    Employment standards

 

    1. Requires knowledge of agronomy and turf grass management practices; a working knowledge of golf facility construction principles, practices and methods; and a thorough understanding of the rules and strategies of the game of golf
    2. Requires administrative and executive ability, especially in terms of problem solving and decision making
    3. Requires excellent oral and written communications skills
    4. Is expected to become familiar with current local regulations affecting the management of golf course operations (including, but not limited to, employment, safety and environmental standards, laws and regulations)
    5. Requires participation in continuing education opportunities such as seminars, workshops, correspondence courses, field days and trade shows.

5.  Ancillary Duties:

 

In line with the Club’s strive for continuous improvement, you may be requested to participate in various extra activities contributing towards individuals and organizational growth.

 

Represent the department or a group in various committees, such as the Staff Committee, Green Team (environmental), Food Committee, Sport Committee or projects. Be trained as a Fire Marshall or First Aider.

 

 

   6. Quality Responsibilities:

 

Aware of Dubai Golf Mission, Vision and Values. Will be responsible to apply the 4 Service Steps throughout serving internal and external customers.

 

   7.    IT Security Awareness:

 

  1. Read, Understand and comply with all applicable Information Security Policies and Procedures of wasl.
  2. Co-operate, co-ordinate and share information with Internal/External Audit teams as appropriate and applicable.
  3. Attend Information Security Awareness sessions conducted by the wasl IT Department.
  4. All Information Security breaches, events, weaknesses, incidents (actual or suspected breaches) shall be immediately reported to the IT Service Desk.

POSITION: GCM Intern

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

SUPPORTIVE SKILLS

2-5 years’ experience at a reputed Golf Course.

A good team leader with the ability to lead by example.

Advanced knowledge on agronomy or golf course maintenance.

Good communication and interactive skills to lead a multi-cultural team.

Tournament preparation experience

Good administrative skills

Computer literate with excellent communication skills. (English both written and oral)

A sound technical knowledge in all aspects of a golf course.
